Chainlink Blockchain Integration Grants

Key Takeaways:

  • Chainlink is now accepting RFPs for projects integrating Chainlink’s oracle network into blockchain partnerships that need high quality Chainlink oracles on their chain.
  • Winning proposals will be awarded a Blockchain Integration Grant of $100,000+, with the potential for ongoing revenue around maintenance of the integration.
  • The first blockchain integration RFP is for Solana, co-sponsored by Solana and Serum. Serum is the first completely on-chain cryptocurrency ecosystem with trustless trading built on the Solana network.

In order to further support the rapid growth of the Chainlink ecosystem, we’ve recently released the Chainlink Community Grant Program, as a means of providing important financial resources to the many development teams building Chainlink, as well as the many additional developer resources that enable easy access to the network. Our goal with the grant program is to deploy substantial financial resources towards the creation of critical developer tooling, the addition of more high-quality data, the onboarding of new blockchains, and the launching of key services around the Chainlink Network.

We are excited to announce that in addition to our current grant application process, where people can submit original ideas for what they want to build around or integrate into the Chainlink Network, we are now introducing a request for proposal (RFP) process that makes specific grants openly available to the larger blockchain development community, which anyone with the right skill set can submit proposals for.

RFPs are a standard way in which large teams all over the world procure specific technological work/services from other specialized teams. An RFP document outlines the specific work they want done, and potential suppliers of this work then submit proposals outlining why they are the ideal candidate to service such needs, pointing to their credentials, relevant experience in specific work, plan to complete the work, and any other details that make them qualified. After a specific time period, a winner is chosen and contracted to perform such work.

With an increasing number of blockchains wanting to integrate Chainlink, we have identified blockchain integrations of Chainlink as an initial focus of our RFP processWinners submitting the best proposal will be awarded a Chainlink Grant to complete the integration, along with potential for an ongoing relationship to maintain the integration over time.

Who Should Apply?

We aim to use these grants to enable the open-source community to be part of the building the Chainlink Network into a public good that will expand the functionality, data richness, and quality of both the Chainlink ecosystem and the entire smart contract economy. While anyone can apply, we have identified certain sections of the Chainlink and blockchain community that are best suited to service these RFPs, which include:

  • Development Shops/Consultancies – development consultancies are highly experienced in taking on contract development work, thus they are a great candidate to apply their technical expertise to the enhancement of the Chainlink Network.
  • Node operators – Most Chainlink and/or blockchain node operators are intimately familiar with how to integrate with a multitude of different blockchain environments, processing the necessary skillset to onboard Chainlink onto various new chains, especially those they are already familiar with.
  • Individual Developers Knowledgeable in a specific Blockchain – There are a plethora of developers that specialize in development on a certain blockchain, making them strong candidates to submit proposals for RFPs offered on their specific blockchain.

Why Should You Apply

Building a Chainlink integration is a great opportunity to bring a full service oracle solution to your blockchain, enabling developers to build a wide variety of smart contract applications. Not only can it lead to the development of a robust DeFi ecosystem supported by Chainlink’s widely used Price Feeds, but developers can build applications in insurance, gaming, global trade, and numerous other data driven blockchain products on your favorite blockchain.

Chainlink’s blockchain integration grants provide excellent opportunities for developer teams or individual developers to take on a defined body of work, with a full outline from the onset on the exact set of objectives they need to achieve and the specified timeframe in which to achieve them. RFPs will be supported by above market grants to ensure the developers are adequately compensated for their services. Blockchain integration grants will be paid out for $100K USD or more, depending on the particular challenges of integrating with a specific chain. They may also involve an additional maintenance period for the integration’s ongoing support, which will allow for the creation of an ongoing revenue stream for the integration’s creator.

What are the Requirements for Blockchain Integration RFPs

Chainlink is a blockchain agnostic oracle network that can be natively integrated into any blockchain environment. Developers can write Chainlink’s system of smart contracts (Oracle, Service Agreement, Aggregation, Data Consumer, etc.) into the native language of other blockchains to enable on-chain Chainlink oracle services without dependencies on any other blockchains. Additionally, a cross-chain token bridge can permissionlessly bring LINK tokens into any other smart contract enabled blockchain environment (via wrapped LINK), allowing payment for oracle services directly on the native chain.

Many leading blockchains have already begun integrating Chainlink into their network, such as Polkadot, Tezos, Ava, Kava, and more. We aim to accelerate Chainlink’s adoption across all the leading chains by offering grants to developers building out blockchain integrations and bringing wrapped LINK on to those blockchain environments to service requests.

Developers who wish to be selected for a Blockchain Integration RFP must successfully:

  • Build an integration with the blockchain and maintain it for one year.
  • Launch a working LINK token bridge using our established framework
  • Write documentation so other nodes/developers can easily deploy on-chain
  • Provide basic monitoring to ensure the integration operates correctly

The First Blockchain Integration RFP: Solana

We are excited to announce the first featured grant, a proposal to integrate Chainlink on the Solana blockchain. We want to thank both the Solana and Serum teams, who have co-sponsored this integration grant. If you are involved in the Solana ecosystem or a dev shop looking to work on cutting edge infrastructure, we encourage you to submit a proposal.

Solana is a high throughput blockchain, offering a non-sharded, low-latency, high-capacity replicated state machine. Serum is a scalable and liquid decentralized exchange (DEX) for derivatives built on top of the Solana blockchain. Integrating Chainlink on Solana is beneficial for all parties: Serum gets access to a high-speed decentralized oracle that can be leveraged within a wide variety of DeFi products on its platform, Solana provides developers with a multi-purpose generalized oracle solution for a multitude of use cases, and Chainlink is able to expand on to more blockchain environments.

“Solana is designed to be an engine of price discovery, combined with Chainlink oracles it opens up new possibilities for scalable high performance defi applications.” – Anatoly Yakovenko, Co-founder of Solana

Through the Chainlink Community Grants program, we look forward to continuing to empower more and more Chainlink ecosystem teams who are building key tools and infrastructure that accelerate the development of universally connected smart contracts and secure oracle node infrastructure. We will continue supporting the community as a key driver of Chainlink’s rapid growth, because only together can we make universally connected smart contracts into the dominant form of digital agreement.

If you want to learn more about the Grant Program, check out our recent blog post that further expands upon its goals and the criteria for submission. If you are a developer, node operator, or independent consultancy and would like to participate in the Chainlink Grant Program generally, please apply here. Chainlink Community Grants are provided in Cash and/or LINK.
